Even though sexual harassment is part of the daily lives of Indian women, be it a simple commute to work or an evening out with friends, we don’t often discuss it. But by ignoring the subject, we aren’t stopping it from happening. What will actually help curb sexual harassment and make our surroundings friendly for every woman is dialogue especially with the youth.
It is essential that as parents we talk to our kids, especially boys about sexual harassment and make them realise that it’s not only the ‘other’ girls who are affected but also their own mothers and sisters.
